Schedule:

  • Weekdays: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

  • Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

  • School Holidays: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
    (Both weekday and Saturday shifts required)

Rising Capacities for Children Africa (RICCA) is a locally led nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children in rural Kenya learn, grow, and thrive. Through community-based education and development programs, RICCA supports children’s academic, emotional, and social wellbeing.

Role Purpose

RICCA is seeking a committed After School Project Assistant Catalyst to support the delivery of structured learning sessions and child development activities. This role helps ensure a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children while strengthening community connections.

Key Responsibilities

Child Development & Learning Support

  • Deliver structured after-school sessions and learning activities.

  • Support children’s physical, emotional, and educational development.

  • Mentor and coach children to encourage positive growth and confidence.

  • Model positive behaviour and responsible decision-making.

Community & Relationship Building

  • Build strong relationships with parents, schools, and community partners.

  • Collaborate with RICCA staff and volunteers to plan and deliver programs.

Safety & Environment

  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and child-friendly learning space.

  • Monitor children’s wellbeing and respond appropriately to their needs.

Expectations

  • Treat all children, parents, and staff with respect regardless of tribe, ability, religion, or socioeconomic status.

  • Arrive on time and complete all scheduled shifts and assigned sessions.

  • Follow RICCA policies, safeguarding standards, and operational procedures.

  • Wear appropriate staff attire.

  • Complete additional tasks as requested.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in English and Swahili.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to problem-solve and adapt to daily challenges.

  • Willingness to learn and grow professionally.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum age: 21 years

  • College/University Degree or Diploma

  • At least 6 months experience in a related role

  • Successful criminal background screening

  • No history of substance abuse (including alcohol)

Training Requirements

The selected candidate must complete the following within the first 60 days:

  • First Aid

  • CPR

  • Sexual Harassment Prevention

  • Child Abuse Prevention

  • Any additional training required for the role

Safeguarding Responsibilities

Safeguarding children is a core priority at RICCA. The role requires:

  • Reporting any child or staff accident, incident, or suspected abuse immediately.

  • Following emergency and safeguarding procedures.

  • Participating in required safeguarding training.

Through community-based learning and sustainability initiatives, RICCA supports practical skills development and climate adaptation education.

Role Purpose

RICCA is seeking a dedicated Farm Assistant Catalyst to support the implementation of the RICCA Kids Farm Project. The role supports daily farm operations and helps facilitate agriculture-based learning sessions for children and parents through hands-on demonstrations and climate adaptation activities.

Key Responsibilities

Farm Operations & Crop Management

  • Support land preparation, planting, watering, and crop maintenance.

  • Assist with seedling propagation and vegetable production.

  • Support composting and soil health management activities.

  • Maintain farm cleanliness, organization, and overall upkeep.

Agriculture Education & Demonstrations

  • Assist in delivering practical agriculture demonstration sessions.

  • Support climate adaptation and sustainable farming learning activities for children and parents.

  • Help prepare materials and activities for training sessions.

Farm Systems & Sustainability

  • Support implementation of organic and sustainable farming practices.

  • Assist with irrigation systems and greenhouse management (where applicable).

  • Maintain basic farm production and activity records.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in basic farm management or agribusiness.

  • Knowledge of vegetable production and seedling propagation.

  • Understanding of soil health and organic farming practices.

  • Record keeping and basic farm monitoring skills.

  • Knowledge of greenhouse and irrigation systems is an advantage.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Diploma required.

  • Certification or short course in Agriculture, Sustainable Farming, Organic Farming, Agribusiness, or related field is an advantage.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

Safeguarding children is central to RICCA’s work. This role requires:

  • Reporting any staff or child accident, incident, or suspected abuse immediately.

  • Following safeguarding and emergency procedures.

  • Participating in required safeguarding training and briefings.

Additional Expectations

  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training sessions.

  • Participate in program planning meetings when required.

  • Perform additional tasks assigned by the Executive Director or Project Lead.

Compensation

Compensation is based on experience, certifications, training, and qualifications.
